FAA: History, Purpose and Accomplishments

The Folsom Athletic Association (FAA) was founded as a federal non-profit organization 503(c) in October, 1979. The goals and objectives of the FAA were to advocate for improved recreational programs and facilities for the residents of Folsom. The first recreational programs for the City of Folsom were run by the FAA through a contract with the city. In early 1985, the City of Folsom established their first Recreational Department headed by the previous recreation head of FAA. The first major recreational facility started by the FAA was a 30 acre community park named Lembi Park. This park consists of 3 softball fields, a large baseball field; all with lights, 3 full size soccer fields, and numerous tot lots, picnic areas and shed structures.

From this accomplishment, the FAA has partnered with the city to build more than 40 parks over the last 20 years. The FAA has established a youth scholarship program that enables residents to participate in recreation programs that they could not have otherwise afford. In 1983, the FAA started and now partners with the city a Run with Nature annual event. Also, the FAA plays a major role in supporting the city Spring Eggstravaganza and the Cave Teen Centers. The FAA ha 10 major youth sports organizations on the board with full voting rights. Their goal is to provide successful youth sports programs for the children of Folsom. In 2006, 7,770 kids registered for youth sports. The FAA serves as an umbrella organization for all the city youth groups to ensure their success and financial stability. Recent FAA successes were the city's purchase of the Folsom Sports Complex, a Senior/Cultural Arts Center, and providing a site for a multi-million dollar city library. The FAA will continue to advance the interest, activity and participation in recreational activities in Folsom.
